Germany: Iran's Anti Soccer Cartoon Jihad Develops

So many cartoons, so little time! Iran's own little Cartoon Jihad gathers steam: Iran demands apology for German soccer cartoon

Reuters - The Iranian embassy in Germany has demanded a written apology from a Berlin newspaper that printed a cartoon of Iranian soccer players dressed as suicide bombers and threatened legal action if none is forthcoming.

The sketch, published on Friday by Der Tagesspiegel, shows four moustachioed soccer players wearing Iran shirts with explosives strapped to their chests next to four German soldiers in a soccer stadium.

A caption above read: "Why the German army should definitely be used during the soccer World Cup!", referring to a debate in Germany about whether to use troops to help with security during the month-long tournament which begins June 9.

Stephan-Andreas Casdorff, the daily's managing editor, said on Monday he regretted the reaction to the drawing but did not consider an apology necessary.

We'll see what Mr. Casdorff says when the death treaths begin.... Oh never mind:

The cartoon's artist had received three death threats and had been forced to leave his apartment, he said, adding that the police was investigating the threats.

Meanwhile, in Iran: German embassy comes under attack in Iran capital

Tehran, Iran, Feb. 14 - Radical Islamists attacked the German embassy in Tehran on Tuesday, protesting the printing of insulting cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad in European dailies.

Dozens of members of the Bassij, an off-shoot of the Revolutionary Guards, hurled stones at the embassy building shattering several windows.

No, no, and no! The Bassij militia is not an offshoot of anything, but an integral part of Iran's military command. They won't do anything like that without receiving orders to do so.

They chanted, "Death to America", "Death to Israel", and "Fascist Germany is the slave of the Zionists", demanding the closure of the embassy.

Several U.S. and Israeli flags were set on fire outside the embassy compound.

Ah, the magic of the marketplace. They burned American and Israeli flags, but not German ones, because there were not German flags on hand. But not to worry; as we speak, Farid the Persian flag maker has added a third shift in his Flags for Burning factory.
